Testing 1-2-3 ... Is this mike working? If anybody is listening, I'm frustrated (and somewhat worried) by ZipCar's handling -- or lack thereof -- of potentially serious maintenance issues. I use the same car frequently (weekly!). For the past fe...

Why I think shared resources kick ass

This is a repost from my blog that I made last week regarding an experience with Philly Car Share (whom I heart). I'm working really hard to get PCS involved with the Philadelphia Coworking initiative for a number of reasons..some of which I outline. So here it goes:

I just got back from an afternoon driving an

A Little Bit of Zipcar Controversy in Vancouver

From a comment on my Getting Greener post.

"An interesting note about Zipcar: they
just launched in Vancouver (like, yesterday), and from what I can
garner from my peers, they’re facing a lot of negative reaction.

Why? Because Vancouver has a venerable, much-loved car co-op (http://www.cooperativeauto.net/) and Zipcar is the first (

Zipsters + Northbeachniks!

Mad props to Tara for starting this network of Zipsters. Let's see what happens here!

Are there any Zipsters in North Beach / Telegraph Hill in San Francisco?

I wanted to tell you all about another Ning network that is for residents and fans of the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco. If you're a member here, or anywhere else on ning, it will be easy to sign in with your existing ning id! Try it out at:

Ditch the Clutter: Why Buy When You Can Borrow?

to make owning a car not only unnecessary but undesirable.   I've mentioned here that instead of owning a car, my husband and I walk, bike, and take public transit.  But for the times we need to leave town or haul something big, we have a Zip Car membership. Susanna from Cheap Like Me has written a comprehensive post about car-sharing, how it works, and how much money we can save through borrowing instead of buying.  In " Car sharing - borrow your second (or first!) car," she says: For people who only us

Zip Car coming to Shilshole ?

I don’t know but I’m trying to make it happen! If you’re not familiar with Zip Car they’re a car rental service focused on people who have fewer or no cars but occasionally need a car. I think the Shilshole Bay Marina is a great candidate for such a service. 99% of the time I ride my scooter and Dawn has the car. But frequently we have to do this log

Having wheels wasn't helping anyone today, and "Zip" would not be the word I would use to describe our movement.

See Jules. See Jules drive.
See the 59th Street Bridge.
Drive, Jules, carefully!

Found myself thwarted all day. All my expectation, all my attempts at productivity, shattered by circumstance. From the beginning, it was just one of those days... though at the end, I managed to accomplish something—I carried 7 boxes, a lamp and a painting back up into the new apartment from my parents' house. At least physical exhaustion dampens despair.

In other news, Julie did excellent driving from Manhattan to Queens!

Plus dinner with my parents was really nice. They gave me a whole series of recipes/Taiwanese-cooking-techniques that I'm supposed to employ now that we have our own place, and—before too long—another mouth to feed. We'll see how that goes...
